US Title Defended Under Freebird Rule?

This Monday, The Miz will defend his US title against Bret Hart.

For the past hour I’ve been thinking about a conversation I had with my friend Chelsea. We were talking about the US title and the possibility of it being taken off of Miz this coming Monday, when he defends it against Bret Hart.

Something struck me while I was thinking about this. The United States championship hasn’t been defended in forever, so on Monday, when The Miz defends his title against Bret Hart, I think it’d be really interesting if Bret Hart were to beat the Miz and win the title.

Now, obviously Bret isn’t able to defend the title, but because he is a member of the Hart Dynasty, as Miz pointed out, he could win the title and then let the Hart Dynasty defend it under the Freebird Rule.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Freebird rule,  it was created to allow any two members of the Fabulous Freebirds (or any two of any 3-or-more-man teams) to defend the NWA Tag-Team titles.  The precedence that would allow The Hart Dynasty – Kidd or Smith (or Natalya) to defend a singles title- would be when the three members of Three Count were allowed to defend the WCW Hardcore title.

As I said, Bret Hart obviously isn’t able to defend the title if the match was to go through and he actually won, so in theory, they could use the Freebird Rule to allow this.

I think it’d be pretty neat if they allowed this to happen. It’d make the Hart Dynasty look really good and while they were going through with whatever plans they have for this feud with JeriMiz (or is it MizIcho?), they could also defend the US title against some of the guys on the roster who may not fit in anywhere else. Guys like Bourne, Goldust, Tatsu, the Colons, Ryder and Regal.

Of course, The Miz could retain the title, or as we’re talking about the WWE, the title defense might not happen at all. But even if Miz didn’t work the match against Bret, and instead faced another member of the Hart Dynasty, it would still work that they could defend the title under this stipulation.

What do you guys think of this? Did I just waste a lot of my time explaining this all to you?

Let me know what you think will happen with the US title on the commercial-free Monday Night RAW, hosted by Buzz Aldrin.
